SMS opt-in — how consent is captured
Every mobile number that receives a WindTroubleshooter LLC alert was entered and signed for by the person who owns it. This page shows the whole procedure and the exact wording they agreed to.
Who is invited
Recipients are employees and contractors of the wind-farm operator and are registered users of the WindTroubleshooter platform. No number is ever purchased, rented, imported from a list, or entered by anyone other than the person it belongs to.
Step 1 — the site administrator sends an invitation
The administrator supplies an email address and the sites that person covers. The system emails a single-use enrolment link to that address. The link expires after 14 days. The administrator does not enter a mobile number and has no way to do so: the field does not exist on any screen available to them.
Step 2 — the recipient completes the form themselves
The link opens a form at /sms-enrol/<single-use token>. On it, the
recipient:
- enters their own name, employer and role;
- enters their own mobile number, and ticks “This is my number — I am the subscriber to this number, or its customary user, and I am authorised to give consent for it”;
- chooses the message categories they want, separately — lightning proximity alerts, weather limit alerts, and service notices are three independent choices, never one blanket tick;
- reads the consent wording reproduced in full below and ticks “I have read the above and I consent to receive the messages I selected”;
- confirms they are at least 18 years old;
- reads a separate assumption-of-risk and release agreement and accepts it separately, so that withdrawing consent to messages later does not disturb it;
- signs by typing their full legal name.
The exact consent wording shown
Reproduced verbatim from the running system — the same text the recipient reads above the tick box:
By ticking the boxes above and submitting this form, I consent to receive the message categories I selected, on the channels I selected, from WindTroubleshooter LLC, at the mobile number I entered above. I confirm that I am the subscriber to that number, or its customary user, and that I am authorised to give this consent for it. Message frequency varies with weather. During active thunderstorms near a site I am assigned to, I may receive several messages in one day. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of any purchase. I can reply HELP to any message for help, and STOP to stop. WindTroubleshooter LLC will not share or sell my mobile information to third parties or affiliates for promotional or marketing purposes. I can withdraw this consent at any time, by any reasonable means, and it costs nothing. Replying STOP, END, QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, OPTOUT or REVOKE to any message will do it. So will replying in my own words, emailing support@windtroubleshooter.com, or telephoning the support number. I do not have to use a particular word or a particular channel. WindTroubleshooter LLC will action a withdrawal within ten business days and will send one final confirmation message and nothing after it. I understand that WindTroubleshooter LLC cannot receive replies on every channel it can send on, and that where a channel is one-way this is stated in the message itself.
Step 3 — what is recorded
On submission the system stores the date and time, the recipient's IP address and browser, the categories and channels they chose, the version number of the wording shown and its SHA-256 hash, and their typed signature. The hash is of the text actually rendered to that person, so years later the record proves what they read rather than what the current version of the wording happens to say. A certificate of the consent and the release is generated as a PDF and archived. WindTroubleshooter LLC can produce that record on demand.
Step 4 — the administrator activates the number
This step is provisioning, not consent. Consent is legally complete at the moment the recipient submits the form. The administrator's later click confirms the submission came from the person they meant to invite and releases the number against the operator's plan. It cannot create consent and is never recorded as though it did. A confirmation message goes to the number as soon as it is active:
“You have agreed to receive SMS lightning safety alert messages from WindTroubleshooter LLC. Msg freq may vary. Std msg & data rates apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.”
Ongoing messages — safety alerts only, no marketing
“WindTroubleshooter LIGHTNING ALERT — strikes within 30 mi of South Fork (closest ~22 mi). Follow your site safety procedures.”
“WindTroubleshooter — all clear at South Fork: no lightning inside 50 mi for 30+ minutes.”
Opt out and help — automated, always available
STOP → “You've been unsubscribed from WindTroubleshooter lightning alerts. Reply START to re-subscribe.”
HELP → “WindTroubleshooter lightning alerts. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, START to re-subscribe. Support: support@windtroubleshooter.com”
STOP, END, QUIT, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE and REVOKE are all honoured, and so is a withdrawal in the recipient's own words, by email to support@windtroubleshooter.com, by telephone, or in person to their site administrator. No particular word and no particular channel is required. Withdrawal is free and is actioned immediately; one final confirmation message is sent and nothing after it.
START is a re-subscribe keyword only. It restores alerts for a number that previously opted out and had already enrolled in writing. It is not an enrolment route: texting START from a number that has never enrolled does not subscribe it.
No mobile information will be shared or sold to third parties or affiliates for promotional or marketing purposes.
